Black Circle at Moscow Biennale

The “Black Circle” project was first presented in May 2010. The project shows a series of aggressive and esoteric speeches based on the study of groups belonging to the trend of Third-positionism (Autonomous Nationalism, National Anarchism, National Bolshevism, Radical Traditionalism). Groups of this peculiar trend exist in Greece since the 90s. They are early splits of the Golden Dawn neo-Nazi movement. Since 2008, some of these kernels tried to influence parts of the youth. Most notorious are the “Black Lilly” and the “Independent Meandrian Nationalists”. Through studying the rhetoric of the Black Lilly group, KavecS (Kostis Stafylakis & Vana Kostayola) crafted the Black Circle: a mimetic reproduction of this strange ideological amalgam of anticapitalism, ethno-communitarianism and love for the medieval society. Different versions of the Black Circle have been presented in Athens (aaart, XYZ Outlet et.al.), at the 4^th Moscow Biennial (Media Impact Show), at the “Truth is Concrete” marathon of activist art (Graz), at Palais de Tokyo (“Hell as Pavilion” show) and elsewhere.

For Moscow Biennale, KavecS combined a real event, the meeting of the russian and the greek prime minister, (Putting and Papandreou) together with conspiracy theories of a well known greek nationalist tv persona, with prophesies of a greek monk and with historical references of the russian party of National Bolsheviks and its past and present leaders.

Συμμετοχή στο ειδικό αφιέρωμα στον καλλιτεχνικό ακτιβισμό, Media Impact: International Festival of Activist Art, στα πλαίσια της 4^ης Μπιενάλε της Μόσχας (Σεπτέμβριος 2011), επιμέλεια της Tania Volcova.

Οι KavecS παρουσιάζουν δύο εκδοχές του πρότζεκτ Μαύρος Κύκλος. Το Black Circle Documentary, μια καταγραφή των δράσεων του Μαύρου Κύκλου, μαζί με τεκμηριωτικό υλικό για τη δράση αντίστοιχων ομάδων, και έναν ακόμα λόγο/περφόμανς που συνδυάζει αναφορές στο, συγγενές, ρωσικό κίνημα του Ενθικού Μπολσεβικισμού (Nazbol) και στις εθνικιστικές θεωρίες περί ορθόδοξου τόξου με επικράτηση του «ξανθού γένους». Η ομιλία έχει προφητικό στυλ και καλεί σε «συστράτευση». Οι KavecS συνεκθέτουν με τους ρώσους ακτιβιστές Voina (το αποσχισμένο κομμάτι της Μόσχας), τους Yes Men, τους Billioners for Bush και άλλες διεθνείς ομάδες του καλλιτεχνικού ακτιβισμού. Στην συζήτηση που οργανώνει η μπιενάλε με αφορμή την έκθεση, ο κεντρικός επιμελητής Peter Weibel αναφέρεται στο έργο των KavecS και αναλύει την ιστορία της ιδεολογίας των ομάδων που παρουσιάζονται στο πρότζεκτ Μαύρος Κύκλος. Η συζήτηση δημοσιεύεται στον κατάλογο του Media Impact και συνοδεύεται από αναλυτικό κείμενο του Κωστή Σταφυλάκη (βλ. Υπόμνημα Επιστημονικών Δημοσιευμάτων). Η έκθεση Media Impact, και η έκδοση που τη συνοδεύει, συνιστούν ένα από τα κομβικότερα αφιερώματα στον καλλιτεχνικό ακτιβισμό, στον 21^ο αιώνα.
